About

Project Pencils is a Wright County organization that is dedicated to providing school supplies for students in need. Families contact us with their needs and we reach out to our volunteers to "adopt" students' specific supply lists. Through the generosity of donors and volunteers who purchase supplies for individual needs, we have been able to help thousands of students. In 2022, we covered the full school supply needs of 485 students.

THANK YOU to everyone who has helped Project Pencils over the years!

project pencils OF WRIGHT COUNTY

Project Pencils of Wright County was started in the summer of 2010. A small group of social workers and other Wright County Human Services' staff were brainstorming about a way to help their clients who could not afford school supplies and decided to start collecting donations. The first year, Project Pencils of Wright County helped 40 children by giving them some of the supplies they needed to start school. In 2017, they were able to help 348 local students start school with a backpack and all (or most of) their school supplies! Brandy Vollbrecht has put her heart and countless hours into this wonderful project for the past 13 years.

school supplies for stma

In 2016, a St. Michael-Albertville mom felt there was a need to help local families with their children's school supply needs and School Supplies for STMA was formed. Over its first two years--through the generosity of 45 volunteers--they put together backpacks filled with the complete school supply lists (and even some clothing) for 130 students in Wright County. Hollee Saville has loved coordinating the project for the last 8 years and seeing how they have been able to help so many families, both those in need and those who "adopt" the students' supply needs.

coming together

In 2018, Hollee and Brandy combined their efforts into Project Pencils. We still have the same mission and passion as before: collect and donate school supplies for children in need in Wright County. We love working together to help more families in our communities.
